Application of the test:
- Differential diagnosis in clinical PRA
- Detection of mixed-breed, healthy carriers for breeding selection
The tested mutation is a hereditary cause for the onset of PRA, especially in Labrador Retrievers.
The inheritance is autosomal recessive; the hereditary disease occurs when both gene copies carry the mutation, heterozygous carriers are healthy.
Breeds and hybrids with Labrador genetics can also be affected.
