S – Locus (Piebald)

Application:
- Determination of the predisposition status for breeding planning.
- Diagnosis in case of partial white colouring.
This test is used to determine whether the dog carries the hereditary disposition for the piebald pattern. According to Schmutz et al, the SINE insertion tested can be a marker for the piebald allele with an accuracy of at least 95% in those dog breeds in which the two alleles occur in a dominant-recessive relationship. At present, no other piebald patterns can be determined with certainty by genetic testing. Please note that 'spotting' varies from breed to breed and within a breed from animal to animal.
