Cats with ‘dominant blue eye’ (DBE) can be affected by unrecognised unilateral or bilateral deafness. The test determines whether the gene variant (DBE-RE) responsible for this disorder is present. Inheritance is autosomal dominant with complete penetrance for blue eyes and incomplete for deafness. Homozygosity for this variant is predicted to be lethal.
